A Macro View of NYC/911 : I thought it would be interesting to take a strictly "macro" view of a city like New York, and what better theme than extreme (1.5") closeups of the tiles attached to the fence at W. 11th St. and 7th Ave. On Facebook it's /tilesforamerica. Or just navigate to www.tilesforamerica.com. I had the privilege of meeting Dusty and Paula, the informal guardians of this moving site.

ASARCO: El Paso Copper Smelting Plant : I received rare permission to take one last set of photographs before they finished removing the remainder of the railway and blowing up the towers. It has been a sore spot on El Paso's skyline for years, and a source of significant emissions.

Asbestos Plant : This old asbestos plant, long abandoned, is in Warsaw, IN. It formed the subject of an all day shoot on a below-freezing day in 1992 with Kevin Carter, who was shooting with a view camera while I shot with a Mamiya RZ-67. I received permission to shoot it before the demolition the next day. The color shots you see here were all shot 17 years later in 2009 with a Leica P/S (sans tripod).

Seaholm Power Plant : Taken in Aug, 2011, I rec'd rare permission to enter this historic giant, by myself, for 50 mins. I did all the shooting with a 28-300mm Canon L lens to save time, especially since it was so dark that everything had to be on a tripod. Some exposures are 90 seconds long!

The City of New Orleans : Three hours (6:00-9:00p), one camera (Canon 5D Mark III), one lens (Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM), one street (Bourbon), mainly one ISO (25,600), no tripod, no flash, all handheld. A beautiful night of colors and interesting people.
