All taken on a family vacation in Costa Rica in 2012. We stayed mostly in the Jaco region. I lived in Costa Rica for one year, and have been back about two dozen times. It's an amazingly beautiful and wonderful country.

A macro shot about 1" from the flower with a Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 Macro lens and ring flash. I had no idea this would turn out so beautiful. It's completely unmodified, but looks like a very soft painting.
A macro shot about 1" from a Heliconia with a Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 Macro lens and ring flash. I had no idea this would turn out so beautiful. It's completely unmodified, but looks like a fresh piece of salmon (except for the green).
A macro shot about 1" from the flower with a Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 Macro lens and ring flash. Look at the pollen!
Taken from a lookout on the drive from San Jose to Jaco. It's a 5-part HDR with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM attached to the Canon 1D-X. The sky, which was untouched in post-processing, appears as it does because of the circular polarizer on the end.
I found this shot at the end of a junky alley. It was the only way for villagers to get to their property on the other side. This is a single shot at 1/25 to barely stop the water action, f/22 for maximum depth of field, ISO 400 to make the two work together, and underexposed by 1.67 EV. Converted to black/white with the Nik plugin.
A very non-descript water inlet, but something I thought would be interesting in black and white.
Some graffiti, taken with a Canon EF 400mm f/4.0 DO USM IS lens from a LONG ways away. Shot at maximum aperture to create a flat DOF and beautiful bokeh in the background.
A glass-sided building in San Jose, Costa Rica, with an unlit neon sign and a foreboding sky.
A long 7-part HDR with the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO USM IS. I "saw" this picture for days as I walked passed it. Most viewers are not likely to agree with me, but I like it. :)
