This small, stone church is the St. Mary -in-Castro, from the Saxon era. It was built 1,000 years ago, and I wanted to capture it as the sun set.
This is the "keep" of Dover Castle, built in 1181, and it houses the strongest central tower that serves as a final defense within the castle's walls.
Three musket slits in a tunnel, dug in medieval times (built in 1216, to shoot downwards onto enemies in the moat).
Looking west on the Thames River, running through central London, you can see the pink "London Bridge" in the background.
The entire--and amazing--Tower Bridge, taken on a very cold and rainy night from an outcropping eastward. That "No Trespassing" sign was not going to deter me from this perfect angle.
A sea of bicycles at Paddington Station, where the workers ride to the train stop and lock their bikes up before taking the train or underground to work. Can you imagine finding your bike in this mess? Unless it was blue? This picture was taken after a very long day of photo trekking, past midnight.
A non-traditional view of the Tower Bridge with time-exposed headlights and taillights. The bridge moved quite a bit under heavy truck loads, so the trick was to lock the mirror up and time it so that the exposure could start and stop between the big thumps.

The highlight a very cold, wet day wandering Oxford, with very sore feet, had to have been these two shots. These came into view--with the falling light absolutely perfect--as I wandered what looked like a barren alley. This is the Magdalen (pronounced "maud-lin") bridge over the River Cherwell, just before it empties into the Thames River. It runs through Magdalen College, where Oscar Wilde studied. Here's the shot I saw first. I especially like the "highlight" where the sun shines through a tree onto the rightmost arch, as well as the nearly invisible batch of darkly colored "punts" in the foreground. I like the complexity of the picture: the more you look, the more there is. (Look how a slighting different vantage point can change everything about the picture.)
