retake > Friend and riding buddy Dex (Alan Poindexter) was the pilot on this shuttle mission (#122), and I got a pass to get within a few hundred yards the night before. Here it sits, all fueled and ready for liftoff the next morning, though it was scrubbed after a fuel leak.

retake > Grandpa (Glenn T. Baker) sitting in a B-24 cockpit. He was a final inspection manager for the B-24 line in a converted Ford plant in Dearborn, MI, turning out more than one airplane every hour. The US produced 18,000+ B-24 airplanes for the warI. This cockpit was part of Pony Maples' static air museum, with a complete B-24 cockpit, waist gunner in fuselage, and P-51 cockpit/engine. I had free run of the place one day, courtesy of Pony. Grandpa turned 100 a month after this picture.
retake > An ancient short wave radio used in WW II. It was part of Pony Maples' static air museum, with a complete B-24 cockpit, waist gunner in fuselage, and P-51 cockpit/engine. I had free run of the place one day, courtesy of Pony.
